Craft Memorial Library provides
materials and services
to all residents of Mercer County and the surrounding area
to meet educational, informational, cultural, and recreational interests or
needs.
The library offers a wide variety of materials and services which include:
How to Get A Library Card -
Picture
ID with a current address or two of the following:
--Driver's license
--Piece of recently canceled mail with a current address
--Social Security card
--Birth certificate
--Military ID
--Check with a current address
--Voter registration card with a current address
Parent or legal guardian MUST be present for patron ages 6-16 to obtain
a library card
The first library card is free. Replacement cards
cost $1.00
Patrons will be required to present
their library card to check out materials

Photocopy Services - The
library can make copies for you.

Fax Services - The library can
fax documents for you.
To receive faxes, there is a charge of
$0.50 per page.
There is a charge of $0.50 per page for local calls and
toll-free calls.
For long-distance calls, the charge is $2.00 for the
first page and $1.00 per page after that.
For international faxes, there is a $5.00 fee for the 1st page
and $1.00 per additional page.
Interlibrary Loan -
Materials
unavailable at Craft Memorial Library may be requested from other libraries
through Inter-Library
Loan.
Patrons must
have a current Craft Memorial Library card that is free of overdue materials
and/or fines.
Materials are
loaned as a courtesy and their conditions of use, including due dates, must be
respected.
Books and
journal articles are the most commonly borrowed items.
In general,
recently published books, reference books, audio cassettes, videos, CDs, DVDs,
and other types
of media, cannot be borrowed.
Most libraries
will not loan old, rare or fragile books.
There is no
charge for this service except fees imposed by the lending library.
Acquisition of
multiple requests submitted may be limited.
The complete
title and author's name is needed to process the request. Additional information
such as date of
publication, edition, and publisher is also
helpful.
Patrons will
be notified by telephone when the item arrives.
Incoming items
may be picked up at the Circulation Desk during regular business hours.
Most items
take two to four weeks to arrive. Some items are more difficult to obtain and
may take longer.
Loan periods
are established by the lending library and may vary. A typical loan period is
three weeks.
Loans must be
returned to the Circulation Desk on or before the due date.
Patrons who
need to renew materials for a longer period than allotted must request an
extension at least a
week before
the due date. The lending library decides whether to renew the items.

Bookmobile Services
- Craft
Memorial Library began providing Bookmobile services to the public
in 1974. The current bookmobile, when completely loaded,
can hold approximately 3,500
books!
The Bookmobile runs Monday - Friday and stops at scheduled locations such as:

Obituary Searches
Obituary searches may be conducted for those who died in the Bluefield, West
Virginia region.
If you are
not a local resident, the library staff can do the obituary searches for you.
If you are a local resident you are
invited to come to the Library to do the search. Assistance is available
to get you started.
When requesting a search, please include your name, address, phone number,
search information, and the maximum amount you are willing to spend.
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph
newspaper, available since its beginning in 1896, is not indexed,
therefore complete information is required:
* Full Name
* Date of Death
- month, day, year
* Place of Death
Because of
limited staff and the time involved in doing a search, the following fees will
apply:
* $5.00 for first 30 minutes spent searching and $5.00 per each
each additional 30 minutes
* $ .20
per copy
* Postage
An invoice for
any fees will be mailed with the search results. Fees may be paid by money order
or check payable to Craft Memorial Library.
